The Web Cache of an Oracle Collaboration Suite middle tier instance is preconfigured with caching rules that will be applicable for most installations. You can change them if you wish, but this will not usually be necessary. They permit Web Cache to cache static documents such as images and pages of HTML for a few minutes before getting fresh copies. Where appropriate, the documents are compressed before transmission. What you may wish to change is the load-balancing features of Web Cache if you have installed multiple middle tiers. In an environment with more than one middle tier instance, if the instances are symmetrical, you can configure connect-time failover and load balancing between them by registering all the Apache web listeners with all the Web Caches. You can even take this further by putting the Web Caches into a Web Cache cluster.
